Allosaurus is a genus of large theropod dinosaur that lived 155 to 150 million years ago during the late Jurassic period. Allosaurus fragilis, the best-known species, had an average length of 8.5 meters (28 ft), and an estimated weight of 2.3 metric tons. It has been speculated since the 1970s that Allosaurus preyed on sauropods and other large dinosaurs by hunting in groups, however it has also been argued they had largely aggressive interactions instead of cooperative interactions with other members of their own species.
